"This was an amazing immersion in the Amazon as well as Spanish. The daily excursions were great, very professionally done and I really got to learn a lot about this amazing region. The nights relaxing with the sounds of so many insects and other jungle sounds was magical, unforgettable."

A week spent at the Amazon Spanish Center offers a superb experience, exploring the unique biological and cultural diversity of the Amazon region while you take Spanish classes surrounded by the magic of the rainforest. This program starts by traveling on Sunday to arrive in the late afternoon or early evening at the lodge. A 4-hour bus ride to Tena is followed by a shorter local bus ride to Ahuano where you will cross the river in a motorized canoe. From there you will be met and driven to the lodge which is fairly close by.

Highlights of the week . . .
  • 15-20 hours of Spanish classes
  • A motorized canoe ride across the river to Anaconda Island and visit a local Kichwa family in their rainforest home to learn about their way of life
  • Drift down the river in an inflated inner-tube and watch the Amazon rainforest pass by on both sides
  • Hike into primary rainforest and learn about the plants and their medicinal and other uses
  • Spot monkeys, parrots and other wildlife as you hike and canoe
  • Visit a butterfly farm in the nearby village

Staff at the lodge prepare delicious and balanced meals throughout the day using local products as far as possible. Vegetarians and other dietary requirements can be catered for. Meals are served in the dining area which looks out towards the river and the rainforest beyond.

Each of the comfortable cabins provides a cool and spacious retreat for the night with an en-suite bathroom with hot water and screens on the windows. Cabins can be adapted to different sizes of families and groups. There are ample public spaces for reading, watching TV or relaxing and listening to the sounds of the jungle. Students can buy soft drinks and beer from the small bar.
