The extinct volcano of Pasochoa is one of the best places to see the famous Andean Condor without mentioning the variety of hummingbirds like and other avian life. The climb offers superb view of the mighty Cotopaxi and surroundings volcanoes. Inside the crater you can find the remaining primary Andean forest. This is the perfect first hike for those who are new to altitude or those who begin an acclimatization program. There are two different ways to get the top, one way is trekking though private farm owner properties taking around 5 hours to the top or you can choose to take the other route having a little more trek till the top. It is important to know that this trek is essential for an acclimatization program. The weather in the area is unpredictable so you must be prepared with warm clothing.
The physical and technical level for this track is low. The minimum elevation is 3.300m / 10.826 ft and the maximum 4200m / 13.779 ft. The terrain consists of sand and rocks.
"This was a wonderful day, a well organized day and a great climb with a knowledgable guide who could teach us a lot about this region. Would have liked to see a condor but I guess you can't have everything!"
